VoiceOfVulnerability

Midnight had just *past and ***the atmosphere was now filled with Tension and animosity.

The air was filled with a thick residue of short sentences and blunt exchanges between Cassidy and June. There was so much being said but no words were spoken.

As much as Cassidy wanted to trust the words of comfort that left the lips of her lover, she couldn’t help but feel conflicted against her tides of apprehension.

Regardless of how she was feeling, Cassidy was determined to be present within the presence of those around them, and display a united front. Even though she would rather be anywhere else but there right now.

She was on her way to the bathroom when she bumped into the daughter of Eden herself.

They hadn’t been formally introduced , but Cassidy was very familiar with her type.

“Oh my goodness I am so sorry! I didn’t see you there”

Her tone was ambiguous to say the least. Cassidy couldn’t tell if she really didn’t see her or if she chose not to see her.

“Oh no it’s fine it’s my fault I wasn’t looking up. I apologise”

Cassidy proceeded towards the bathroom as Eve began to speak again.

“Wait! Don’t I know you ? You look really familiar

“I don’t think so. I don’t really go out much. You might have me confused with someone else”

Although lying seemed cowardly, it wasn’t technically a lie.

Cassidy truly did not know Eve.

Cassi tried not to fall into the trap of stereotypes attached to ***Eve’***s name, but it was her actions towards June that lead Cassidy’s trail of thought.

“mmhmm Maybe…”

Cassi made a second attempt to end this discourse as she made her way to the bathroom. But alas, she was brought to a halt.

Again.

Wait! I know now! You’re Juju’s girlfriend right? ermm Kayla

“It’s Cassidy, but yes I am June’s girlfriend”

“Hmm interesting.” She nodded her head slowly as she examined her up and down.

“What’s interesting?” Cassidy now felt the urge to stand her ground against the wall of Jericho that appeared before her. Although she may have felt stirred in her spirit, she would never give Eve the satisfaction of knowing that.

She’d much rather walk through ******a fiery furnace.

Eve replied “hmm, nothing really. You’re just not really his type” and with that Eve walked away leaving Cassi with her thoughts.

Eve’s statement was laced with a familiarity that was uncommon to Cassidy. It was almost as if Eve’s statement was based on precedent. And according to her, Cassidy’s case was not fit for purpose.

She watched Eve take center stage of June’s friends as she glowed with the spotlight of attention. Her mind began to drift as to why Eve was still comfortably here.

Cassidy could understand supporting or congratulating a talented ex to a certain extent of course. However, what she didn’t understand was why she felt comfortable enough to stay and mingle.

Cassidy’s mind began to flood in a stream of consciousness.

Did she not feel uncomfortable that his new girlfriend was present ? Did she not want to respect the fact that I was here?

As much as Cassidy wanted to believe this would be Eve’s first and last encounter, something told her that this chapter could only be detected as Genesis.
